Happiness is Calling...
San Diego's saying and commercial they ring about themselves is:
"San Diego...Happiness is Calling"
I'm not gonna call their bluff on this AT ALL.
(Turn your volume up)
(If you couldn't tell, this doesn't need any words or music)
I picked up Spencer after school last week and drove the 5 minute drive from our house to
Mission Bay Park on Fiesta Island.
With a cooler of drinks, treats, and Grouponed Capriotti's Bobbi sandwiches we watched the sunset.
It is honestly my new happy place.
We stayed from sunset until the stars came out reminiscing our life and relationship to the point we're at today.
We laughed about our first date up the Provo Canyon with Arby's and how giddy that was.
And this moment was all sorts of cute and giddy romantic just like that, which is a nice change of pace.
Thank you new happy place.
It's true what they say:
"San Diego...Happiness is Calling"

The Sunday Spill
-Every knows conference weekend rocks. We got conference + Jana my sis-in-law so that's a victory
-One of my favorite talks was by so in so Echo Hawk. Awesome name, awesome talk.
-Ever since we moved to California the only music that I play in the car is classical radio. Which also happens to be a Spanish classical station, which is only right.
-Drove around town today and fell in love exploring this lovely love place
-Buddy is starting to get a lot stronger, but is super hating wearing giant brace still.
-Oh and you know Buddy is over giant brace when Walmart shoppers are giving you the full on, talk out loud 'bout it, crane your head stare down like they ain't ever seen nothin' like it before. Really?...in Walmart and I'm the one gettin' the looks. Eh
-Went to "World of Dance" with Jane yesterday to see her studio compete...pictures to post with explanation...Amazeeeee!!! It's a hip-hop dance competition/convention. Sponsored by Monster and Paul Mitchell. Judged by all the America's Best Dance Crew and Step Up movie peeps. SIGH. Made me wish I was the cutie asian girls throwin' it down in their ghetto fab outfits with swagger leaking out of their ears.
-I definitely now have the thought 5 times an hour as to why I'm not the sceniest of hip-hoppers in my life and how my calling in the industry was never heard.
-I've also said that upon watching Glee or Saturday Night Live or anything where people are doing all the things I am obsessed with and wish I did.
-Starting to realize how long recovery is going to be. Walking is fantastic, but things just aren't the same with giant bracey and a knee that still can only move 90 degrees in one direction.
-My physical therapist here gives me a killer awesome, and by killer awesome I mostly just mean killer, soft tissue massage every time that I thoroughly look forward to each visit, and by look forward I mean I throw up consistently when I think about it.
-My windows are loving only being open 100% of the day and my life and apartment are loving that even more.
-I've been nesting like crazay here since I got back and all I want to do is everything that costs money and is adorable to our place. WHICH btw I love. I just love it here.
-SJO has midterms Tuesday. He's pretty adament about us not being as good of friends as him and his books a contracts and torts and fancy law things and OH Libby, his bestest.
-Surprise party for him Tuesday night. Can't wait. Will tell soon.
-Since I started typing this, 3 cars have been towed from our parking lot. NO JOKE 3 cars. Flashback to Provo life and Freshman year boots and tickets galore. EWE.
-Saw a spider today that was so disgusting large, knarley, and colorful that I was afraid looking at it might poison me. So afraid that I went and told the office thinking it was of the utmost importance. ....Yeah, it wasn't.
Spilt out I think. Sure there's more to come later.

The Sunday Spill
I love today
I think this is the first Sunday that I've felt at ease, in order, and in the right place for a long while.
That place is at home, in San Diego, with the Mr.
Sunday's are my favorite, but for the last 2 months they have just been scattered.
We've been here, there and everywhere. One ward and the other. Together and apart.
Today we are in our home, in our ward, together.
It's the first time in a long time I've felt settled.
The last year was spent in my parents home which was home to me, but not "our" home.
We had been on our own for 3 years, so it was different.
Loved it but different.
Today, was perfect.
So I shall bring back The Sunday Spill:
-This morning we slept in and eased into the day.
-I made us Sunday brunch while we both dolled ourselves us into our Sunday best.
-Spence was dashing as my arm candy today. Mostly because I HAD arm candy again for once.
-Church was fantastic. I love the days you're prepared and open and ready. I wish that was all the time, but honestly we know we're not always quite there. I liked being there today.
-I made a challenge with Spencer today that we had to introduce ourselves to at least one young couple in the ward. We're new still and are bad at putting ourselves out there. I had to trick him into a bit, but he promised he'd do it with me. I think since our hearts were in the right place we got hooked up because 3 families introduced themselves to us before the end of the block and the missionaries, who we found some Salt Lake connections with! It was really nice. It's our first time being really really on our own without knowing anyone around, because Provo, Utah is a place of it's own and Las Vegas is home...so it's hard for us to try to get out there, but we're happy to have had some help today and I left full of awesomeness.
-It was creative mexican/quesadilla night for dinner and SJO mentioned, "I think this might be one of the best meals we've ever had." I will take that! Success. Thank you easy, delicious meal.
-I missed the Relief Society broadcast yesterday, due to my parents being in town, so Spencer set it up for me today with my cozy blanket and watched with me while he did the dishes. (He's a pretty good nurse too BTW). I don't know what it was about this years broadcast, but I was so into it. I always watch and listen, but I don't always hear. I heard every word of this beautiful new RS presidency and song and connected to every bit. It made me feel so full. I am so glad to be able to give the broadcast the dues it deserves and am grateful for what it left me. Anyone else love it more than ever?
-We got to talk with dear Grandma Beth today. We miss being around all the family so much, especially since we're even further away from the Utah clan than ever. And especially when difficult things are happening to people you love the most. Grandma, good luck this week. You are beautiful with the new dome doo and we send our loves, hugs, kisses, fist bumps and chest bumps to you everyday for your strength.
-We ended the evening settling down to Mary Poppins while I put up our Halloween goodies/Iced my Buddy/Organized our week and SJO makes his favorite chocolate chip cookies.
Yup, I love today.

SF/My Heart/948753 Pics&Parts (DAY 2)
Day 2
BIKE THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE DAY
My most recommended San Francisco to-do. Well if you're like us at least.
This was blissful glee
Jill and Eric had done this before so they took us under their wings and over to BLAZING SADDLES.
You could say we still use the store name in jokes.
They also finagled us a deal where we had to go to the back counter to talk details...FANCY.
We got our bikes and went along the water by Ghiradelli sqaure, across parks, past fancy houses, with the beautiful view of the bridge the whole way. Little Ruth was in tow on Jillian's bike.
She's a toughy, pulling baby along with her...skillz.
Jill did a a little photo shoot for us here...SJO LOVES mushy photo shoots.
Do you think SF kids realize how spoiled they are?? Playing their soccer games in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge! Right on the water too.
Our Ringer favs
Biking attire
RaJill
View on the GG Bridge
Seals
We biked over the bridge into the cutie cute town of Sausalito. Fun ride down into the town, sweetest lil main street, lots of fun restaurants. We ate somewhere super good. Can't remember the name, but I definitely recommend it.
I mean Ruth even liked their coasters...
This was the view over the water to San Fran.
Ruthie kickin' it with her mad bottle holding skills.
After some delicious ice cream at Lapparts - don't know where the pics are.
(DELICIOUS and the only other time I've had it is whenever my fam goes to Hawaii.
Hidden jem...worth the ride).
We took the ferry back to the mainland with our bikes.
It was full of booze cruisers.
We fit right in.
Our tour guide continued to take us to "must sees" everywhere we went.
This - the Full House house. You know what I'm talking about.
Uncle Jessie was not there. AND there's no way that many people could have lived there.
Pretty sure they put that piece of tape across 'cause they want no visitors. Boring.
Then it was on to "The Painted Ladies" houses. Which is where you think the Tanner's live in full house, but no, just a landmark. Which I knew nothing about, but loved it so much it lead me to an evening of research and the purchasing of a replica magnet. I recommend you read about it.
(Don't mind the port-a-potties, they're prob gone now)
The park across the street was adorable and had a stellar view of the houses and the city.
My stoic Mr.
The night was completed with some "must have" Chinese take out and kickin' it with Netflix.
It's nice crashing with peeps that know your style.

San Francisco and My heart -- broken into 768 parts & pictures (DAY 1)
May's high point was our trip to San Francisco.
We wanted to go visit our fantastic friends the Ringers, AND we were going to do a school visit to a law school there we were considering. We decided to make it Spencer's birthday present. So the sorry sad post I wrote about our adult birthdays...yeah, adult birthdays also means you can plan a trip somewhere and go. I do like that.
San Francisco as most of you know is wonderful. My camera really liked it, as well as my heart, so combine those too and that's gonna be like a 12 part blog post. Whatevs - here we go.
Night 1/Day 1
We flew there after work on Thursday. We were so worried we were going to miss our flight (cut it real close) well it ended up being delayed, twice. So we had time to make a date night at the airport. We went a tram ride to the D-Gates (they are real fancy) and had dinner and played around.
All alone fun run
He loves water fountains. This one was choice, he told me.
Cutie
These peeps were OUT. Face down in the carpet, no care in the world, wearing a skirt.
Rough flight I guess.
This is my creeper picture of Ben. I couldn't remember how I knew him at first. Thought he was my friend or I creepily remembered him from sports camp in jr high. Then I took the next hour trying to figure it out. "Spencer he's an actor! He's an actor!" He was sure that if he was an actor he wouldn't be riding Southwest in front of us. I was sure he would be. Then it came to me that he was on a TV show. So I used Spencer's on flight Wifi that he bought and researched. THE BACHELOR!! (I didn't know because I actually am not a follower of the show, but I've tuned in to random episodes in random seasons) Ben from the Bachelor. I knew it. He probably heard me talking about him. I was determined to say hi to him when we got off, I didn't want to be annoying and cause a scene on the plane. We got off and as I was about to touch his arm he started walking away and I couldn't find Spencer and the moment was passed. Spencer - STILL DID NOT BELIEVE ME. Oh, we would confirm it somehow.
Jilly picked us up so late from the airport. Sweetie. And she had a bed all set up for us there.
Day 2
We woke up to breakfast made special by our spectacular host, who tiptoed around us while we slept in her path. AND my absolute favorite part...opening my eyes to sweet baby Ruth right next to me. Just watching me, and playing and smiling. I could get use to that smile.
Jilly is the best SF tour guide, that I highly underpaid. She drove us everywhere (I'm pretty impressed with her driving and parking skills also in the crazy city). On our way places she would say, "oh we're going to go this way so you can cross ________ off your list. You have to see it all." Thanks to her we did. On our way to our Alcatraz tour she drove us down Lombard street. She's also the funniest while she does all this. So we got to see that street and it's fancy houses. I wonder how expensive/annoying it is to have that address.
Our first tourist adventure was Alcatraz. We bought tickets for the "Alcatraz Cruise" a few weeks in advance and were both pretty excited. I love historical tours, architecture, places and the stories that go with them. It was a beautiful view the ride over. Windy of course, but beauts.
I am trying to be super minimal and picky on which pictures I post because I took 5 million everywhere we went and because I'm sure many have seen it all and could care less, BUT making simple decisions is real hard for me. So there will probably still be like 1.5 million.
Spence ran the bases. "Yeah, I ran the same ball field as Al Capone and Birdman, so what!?"
Tossed him a pitch
Like I said, the historical details are my favorites. There were words on the ground of where all the supplies would be laid out. Very overlooked.
The view from outside of the cell block.
Most torturous thing is the gorgeous views the prisoners got and how close they were to real life, but so so far away. Taunting. (I love in this picture how you can see the slanted streets and hills).
He acts like he could tough it, but he would not fare well in the D-Block
These are the most famous inmates to visit Alcatraz. Creepy Crazies. Most of them spent time in the D-Block which is the maximum security part of the cells and has the cells for solitary confinement. Pitch black for weeks with nothing...I genuinely would rather just do what I'm told.
The Library was cool. Spence found it relaxing.
This face would never be allowed in Alcatraz. Just wouldn't fit in.
Again with the cool views.
This is the story of the guys that dug themselves out of Alcatraz and haven't been found. The hole is in the back and then they made paper mache fake heads to lay in their beds. I found it completely disturbing/extremely interesting. Look up what they made them of...gross.
After the tour we walked along all the piers to the Ferry Market where Spencer's top favorite food is located. We've only ever been to San Fran one other time with my family, for a weekend trip when the Giants got their WS rings, but we didn't do anything super touristy. We did however eat lunch at Gott's. SJO has not shut up about the place since. SO you could say he was pretty pleased.
Wisconsin Sourdough Burger is what does it for him. WITH the sweet potato fries.
S E R I O U S L Y
One of the main reasons we were visiting SF was to check out one of the schools on Spencer's law school list. Golden Gate University being it.
(Noticing his face now...it explains he wasn't super into it I guess)
I love this ballpark
Ruthie did too. Honestly....best behaved happiest child I've ever seen at a baseball game/anywhere.
Orange Friday digs
Best
Pappa Eric
Night time came - perfect weather, just as awesome, just as happy.
There was highlight during the game when a neon yellow, full unitard wearing man rushed the field for like 5 min before anyone got him. I think he's a champ.
Twice.
So....that was the end of day one. We rode the bus home with tired lil babes and called it a night.
Oh and we woke up to a settlement in the Bachelor on the plane debate. Spencer had tweeted him late t
he night before and when I got it I tweeted also (know that I don't even know how I get Spencer's tweets to my phone, or how to use Twitter, but SJO helped me out for this one because I needed to get my voice heard. Hear are our pleas and Mr. Ben Flanjnik himself with a simple answer.Jilly is the best SF tour guide, that I highly underpaid. She drove us everywhere (I'm pretty impressed with her driving and parking skills also in the crazy city). On our way places she would say, "oh we're going to go this way so you can cross ________ off your list. You have to see it all." Thanks to her we did. I loved the details in the architecture. That they really just let the piece stay in time, no changes, just up keeping to it's original state. So you can really feel like you know what it was like.
The tour was super well done. You could walk around as you pleased, but they offered a movie and headsets. The headsets lead you around the facility very well and they told different stories along the way, showed you empty cells, first day cells, what cells would look like for long time inmates. Made it all very realistic. And you could stay as long or as short as you wanted. If you're into this kind of thing. I recommend it for a one time thing to do if you ever go to San Fran.
The rec yard was my favorite. Mostly because I know that's where we would spend the most of our time. The sad part is that it is FREEZING cold and wild windy because your on an island in the middle of the ocean, so these prisoners came out to get some air and had to put up with non ideal situations even on their escape from the inside.Spence ran the bases. "Yeah, I ran the same ball field as Al Capone and Birdman, so what!?"
